Two fifths of entrepreneurs have come up with the idea for a business
while on the toilet, new research reveals.

According to support organisation Business Link, which recently launched new
services
, the loo is the ninth most popular place for having a
Eureka moment. Other inspirational locations and activities include lying in
bed, while at work and in the pub

Business Link also found that seeing another friend make the leap into
enterprise is the reason behind why 34% of people started a business with 16%
saying they were inspired while watching BBC’s Dragons’ Den.

Cashless Scrap Metal Trade Petition

As a member of the construction industry I am sure you are only too aware of the issue of metal theft that affects both business and private lives.  Some of you may even have been a victim of metal theft.

We feel it is our responsibility to let you know of an e-petition which has been set up to encourage the government to make an amendment to the Scrap Metal Merchants Act 1964 and stop cash payments for scrap metal in order to reduce the impact this crime has on our livelihoods.

You may have already seen this but if you haven’t please take a minute to sign the on-line petition at

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/406

Once the petition reaches 100,000 signatures Parliament is obliged to debate the issue. We hope you will join us in helping to make a difference.

If you would like any further information about metal theft please visit

Thank you for your support.

Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning!!

On Friday 30th September Rawley staff took part in the Macmillan Cancer Care World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Some of our staff baked and sold cakes at the event so we had something to give the day that extra bit of excitement!

As you can see our guys enjoyed the event and ate a variety of homebaked cakes from iced lime sponge slices, sugar topped fairy fruit cakes, victoria sponge with homemade damson jam, lovely rich chocolate cup cakes, blondes with macadamia, pistachio, cranberry and white chocolate, among others.

As there were only 20 staff in on Friday it worked out that we had at least four cakes each!!  There were plenty left to last into the next week.

As we all went home with full bellies a count was made of our fundraising efforts and we are pleased to say we made a massive £77.02 for the charity.

Macmillan help support cancer patient and their families – visit their website http://www.macmillan.org.uk and see how you can get involved.

The results are in – a great big thanks to you all!

We are just coming to the end of a very successful event season.  It’s been full on throughout May, June, July, August and September.  We’ve provided our event toilets at various major events this season such as V-Festival Chelmsford, Notting Hill Carnival, charity events and fun runs, school proms, birthday parties, weddings, and just about anywhere else you could think of where extra loo hire is a must.

Over the season we have sent out customer satisfaction questionnaires.  The response has been fantastic and given us the opportunity to confirm that our service is almost as good as we can make it.  In fact from the questionnaires returned our average rate out of 10 was 9.8!  Now that’s something to be proud of.Rawley Event Toilet Hire

Of course there are always ways we can improve our service so if you have any ideas please contact us by calling 01268 722311 or email marketing@rawley.co.uk.

We are now busy preparing for what could turn out to be an extremely busy year due to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics.

So get your order in early if you don’t want to be caught short and ensure that you hire from a PSE approved toilet hire supplier.

A great big thank you to all our customers from this season.  We look forward to seeing both you and our new customers next season.

Best Business Award Nomination for Rawley Plant

Last year we entered the Basildon Business Awards under the category of Environmental Awareness and won Highly Commended in our section.

This year as part of our 50th anniversary we decided to enter the Best Business in the Community category.Lighthouse Furniture Project

We regularly contribute towards various local charities and projects including the Lighthouse Furniture Project who provide people in need with furniture and white goods which they could not otherwise afford.  Microwaves and kettles returned with our compliancy kits for welfare units are sent to the project on a regular basis for refurbishment and reuse.  This saves us sending them to landfill and it means they get a second life.Essex Wildlife Trust

We also work closely with Essex Wildlife Trust and have recently assisted them to establish a community classroom at the Langdon Hills Country Park.

Some of our management team and members of staff are also regularly involved with local projects such as local community football teams, parish councils and housing organisations.

Giving something back is part of the ethos of Rawley Plant Ltd.

The award ceremony is on 15th July at the Towngate Theatre, Basildon. Wish us luck and watch this space for news of the winners.

Essex Wildlife Trust – Legacy Donation

2011 is a special year for us as we are celebrating 50 years of being established as an independent family owned and run business.  There are few companies in our industry who can make that claim!  We’ve seen and been part of many changes throughout this period and have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience.

As part of our celebrations we decided to make a lasting difference in our community by providing a legacy donation to The Essex Wildlife Trust to assist in the development of a community classroom at the Langdon Visitors Centre and Nature Reserve, Langdon Hills, Basildon http://www.essexwt.org.uk/visitor_centres__nature_reserves/langdon/

As Silver Corporate Sponsors for the last 15 years we are regularly involved with The Essex Wildlife Trust and were delighted they accepted our offer to assist them with this project.

The project is a joint venture with other local businesses to create a community classroom which will help to educate our children about looking after and valuing the wildlife that is so important to our environment.

Visit the Essex Wildlife Trust website http://www.essexwt.org.uk/ to find out more.

The ladder to a 50 year success story…

In 1961 Colin Rawley and his father hired a ladder and a scaffold board to a local builder in Laindon for 30 shillings (that’s £1.50 to me and you).  The rest as they say is history.

Since then we have seen many changes and grown through a few recessions to become a successful independent supplier of portable site accommodation and toilet hire to the construction and events industries in the south east of England.
